Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Marrakech

Explore the Sahara on a tour from Marrakech with Local Morocco Tours, your private desert tour company. You will be greeted by our staff on arrival at Marrakech airport and transferred to your riad in the medina. Our 8-day journey from Marrakech to Zagora and Merzouga begins with a walk through the streets of Marrakech and a visit to a few local souks. You spend the night at your riad after exploring the Jemaa el-Fna square.

Day 2

Marrakech, Atlas Mountains, Aït Benhaddou and Ouarzazate

After breakfast, we cross the High Atlas Mountains, stopping briefly in a few Berber villages on the way to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aït Benhaddou. After a guided tour of this famous kasbah, we continue to Ouarzazate to visit the Atlas Studios. After dinner, you spend the evening in a traditional kasbah in Ouarzazate.

Day 3

Ouarzazate, Agdz and Zagora

Our journey from Marrakech continues today as we make our way to Agdz, a stunning oasis home to the well-known Tamnougalt kasbah. After lunch at the kasbah, we walk through the oasis and up to the Aït Saouen pass. As we drive on towards Zagora, you will admire the beautiful Draa Valley and its palm groves. Dinner and overnight in a riad or kasbah in Zagora.

Day 4

Zagora to the Erg Chebbi desert dunes

We continue our journey, and after lunch in Alnif, we travel to Rissani — the city where caravan trade routes once departed across the Sahara to Mali. From there we cross the Jbel Saghro and drive east-southeast through dramatic landscapes to the desert town of Merzouga. The next stop is a camel ride into the dunes. On arrival at the desert camp, dinner will be ready, along with traditional Berber music and a comfortable tent for the night.

Day 5

Erg Chebbi, Tinghir and Dades Gorges

After an early wake-up call, you will have the best chance to watch the sunrise over the Sahara. After breakfast at the desert camp, we drive to Rissani, then Tinghir and on to the Todgha Valley — a lush oasis running down a beautiful deep gorge. After a stroll through the stunning canyons, we continue to the Dades Valley, famous for its breathtaking rock formations. After dinner, you spend the night in your hotel or kasbah in Dades.

Day 6

Dades, Ouarzazate, Atlas Mountains and Marrakech

The next stage of our 8-day tour from Marrakech takes us through the Dades Gorges, Kalaa M'Gouna and the Valley of the Roses, well known for the Damask roses that grow there. We then continue to the oasis of Skoura to visit the famous Amridil kasbah. We arrive in Ouarzazate, where you can see the city kasbah and Atlas Studios, used as a filming location for some of the most famous movies ever made. After lunch, we continue back to Marrakech via the High Atlas Mountains. Overnight in a hotel or riad in Marrakech.

Day 7
