Overview

This 11-day Morocco desert tour from Marrakech is a private grand loop to the Sahara dunes of Merzouga, led by knowledgeable desert guides and local drivers who know the Sahara well. Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Marrakech and transfer to your hotel

Begin your private Morocco tour from Marrakech with Local Morocco Tours. Your driver will be waiting for you on arrival at Marrakech airport and will give you a concise overview of the journey ahead, before transferring you to a comfortable hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2

Marrakech City and Medina Guided Tour

Day 3

Marrakech, Atlas Mountains, Aït Benhaddou and Ouarzazate

Today we reach the Aït Benhaddou kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, by way of the Atlas Mountains and the Tichka pass, which sits at 2,260 metres. We then head to Ouarzazate, a city that has featured in many well-known films such as "Alexander the Great" and "The Mummy." Dinner and overnight stay in a traditional Moroccan kasbah in Ouarzazate. Day 4

Ouarzazate, Dades Gorges, Todra Gorges, Erfoud and Merzouga

After breakfast, we begin our journey towards Skoura, then continue on to the Dades Gorges and the Valley of the Roses. We visit the most impressive section of the Todra Gorges, a well-known spot for rock climbers. The next leg of our 11-day trip across Morocco takes us from Marrakech to Erfoud and the Merzouga desert, widely considered one of the most picturesque routes in the country. On arrival, you will ride camels across the Erg Chebbi dunes for a closer look. We reach our campsite in time for supper, then spend the night in warm desert tents.

Day 5

Merzouga Erfoud Ziz Valley Midelt Fes

Following breakfast, we depart Merzouga and travel via Erfoud and the Ziz Valley, then climb through Midelt and the Middle Atlas cedar forests to reach Fes by the late afternoon. The drive is widely regarded as one of the most scenic routes in Morocco. On arrival in Fes, you will check in to a riad in the old medina for the night.

Day 6

Guided Tour of Fes

Today's leg of your 11-day tour from Marrakech explores the highlights of Fes, Morocco's oldest imperial city. With a local guide, we visit the Royal Palace gate and the Mellah, the Jewish quarter that contains some of the most lavish residences in the city. We also see the ceramics workshops of Fes, the Medersa Bou Inania and the Kairouyine Mosque, which was founded in 857. We then tour the tanneries, and you will have free time in the afternoon. Spend the night in the old medina of Fes in a riad or hotel.

Day 7

Fes Ouazane Chefchaouen

Today our journey takes us to the town of Chefchaouen, set in the Rif Mountains. We travel via Ouazzane, then explore Chefchaouen's medina with its famous blue-and-white houses, before continuing to the Plaza Uta El Hammam, where locals gather in the evening. Spend the night in a riad in the medina.

Day 8

Chefchaouen

Day 9

Chefchaouen to Rabat via Tangier and Asilah

Today we head to Tangier, where we visit the medina and the Grand Socco, a vast market where vendors sell a variety of produce, fruits and vegetables. We then climb to the kasbah to take in the breathtaking views over Tangier Bay before continuing to the lighthouse at Cap Spartel. After Tangier, we make our way to Asilah and explore its medina, then keep moving south toward Rabat, where we spend the night in a riad or hotel in the medina.

Day 10

Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech

Today our 11-day tour of Morocco from Marrakech continues with a guided tour of Rabat. You will see some of the capital's main attractions, including the Chellah — a necropolis and network of ancient and medieval ruins — as well as the Royal Palace and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. Day 11

Transfer to the airport
