Overview

Founded by Moulay Idriss, the medina of Fes is one of the world's largest living medieval cities. This Casablanca to Fes day trip is one of our most cultural Casablanca day tours — your local guide leads you through its lanes to the Nejjarine fountain, the Moulay Idriss mausoleum and the Attarine madrasa, with stops at the Chouara tanneries and the Karaouine mosque, then drives you back to Casablanca. Departing from Casablanca

Fes is 300km east of Casablanca — about three hours by private vehicle or two and a half hours on the Al Boraq high-speed train. A day trip to Fes from Casablanca gives you 5-6 hours in the medina with a private guide — enough for the tanneries, the Medersa Bou Inania, the spice souk, and a walk through the Jewish Mellah quarter. Given the scale of Fes el-Bali (10,000 alleys, no cars), the medina guide is essential for making the most of a single day.

The long but manageable travel time means this day trip works best when combined with a private driver who departs Casablanca early (by 6:30-7 a.m.) and arrives at the Bab Boujeloud gate of the Fes medina before 10 a.m. This gives you the whole morning and early afternoon in the medina at your own pace before the drive back west. Arriving at dusk in Fes gives the souks a different character, but travel time cuts into available hours.

For travellers who want more than a single day in Fes, the overnight Casablanca-to-Fes tour is strongly recommended — see our 3-day Casablanca to Chefchaouen and Fes tour. Request a quote for your dates and group size.
