Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Skoura and Dades Gorges

Explore the Sahara on a tour from Marrakech with Local Morocco Tours, your private desert tour company. Our journey starts at your hotel or riad and climbs into the spectacular High Atlas Mountains. We make a stop at the UNESCO ksar of Aït Benhaddou before continuing to Ouarzazate. After visiting the local film studios, we drive on to Skoura to see the oasis, then head to the famous Kalaat M'Gouna — known as the Valley of the Roses — before reaching the Dades Gorges, where you spend the night in a charming kasbah with dinner included.

Day 2

Dades Gorges, Todra Gorge and Merzouga

Today our 4-day journey from Marrakech to the Merzouga desert continues with an exploration of the Dades Valley, followed by a visit to the Todgha Gorge, a well-known spot for rock climbing. We then drive to Erfoud, where we visit a fossil workshop, stopping in a few Berber settlements along the way. On arrival in Merzouga, we ride camels into the Sahara, watch a breathtaking sunset and finish the day with dinner and Berber music. Overnight in traditional Berber tents.

Day 3

Merzouga, Rissani, Alnif, N'kob, Zagora, Draa Valley and Ouarzazate

We start early to soak in the desert sunrise, then ride the camels back to Merzouga. After breakfast, we drive to Rissani and continue our 4-day desert tour from Marrakech towards Zagora, passing through Alnif, Tazzarine and N'kob. You will travel through the breathtaking Draa Valley, famous for its palm groves. We make a stop in Zagora and then spend the afternoon climbing over the Tizi N'Tniffift pass on the way to Ouarzazate. We have dinner and spend the night in a traditional kasbah in the city.

Day 4

Ouarzazate, Aït Benhaddou and Marrakech

On the final day of our desert tour from Marrakech, we visit Ouarzazate before driving up into the Atlas Mountains to see the UNESCO-listed ksar of Aït Benhaddou, often considered the most impressive kasbah in Morocco. Marrakech is the starting point for many of our local Sahara tours. After crossing the High Atlas, we arrive back in Marrakech by the evening.
