2 Days Fes to Chefchaouen
Discover the famous blue city on a private 2-day trip from Fes to Chefchaouen, with guided excursions in the Rif Mountains.
This 3-day, 2-night private morocco desert tour from Fes to Merzouga and back takes you on a breathtaking camel ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes — among our most popular morocco desert tours from the imperial north, and a return version of the classic 3-day Sahara desert tour from Marrakech. Cross the Middle Atlas, sleep beneath the stars in a Berber desert camp and discover the best of the Atlas with Local Morocco Tours, running private Morocco tours since 2012 — see other Fes tours if you want a one-way fes to marrakech desert tour instead.
After hotel pick-up we depart for Ifrane, known as the "Switzerland of Morocco", and admire its unique architecture. We then travel on to Azrou to see the Barbary macaques in the cedar forest, followed by a transfer to Midelt. After lunch we drive to Errachidia and Erfoud, arriving in Merzouga where you will explore the Erg Chebbi dunes on a 90-minute camel trek. Enjoy a magical desert sunset, and once we reach the nomad tents we prepare dinner around traditional Berber music. Overnight in a desert camp.
Today we enjoy a Sahara excursion, visiting nomad families who live in the heart of the desert. We then explore Khamlia village and listen to its famous Gnaoua music. In the afternoon we set off on a camel trek over the Erg Chebbi dunes, watch the desert sunset and gather around traditional Berber music after dinner. Overnight in a desert camp.
After an early wake-up and the Sahara sunrise, we ride the camels back to a local hotel in Merzouga for breakfast. We then cross the Ziz valley and the Middle Atlas Mountains via Midelt and Azrou before transferring you back to Fes and dropping you at your hotel. We will be happy to arrange the perfect private tour from Fes for your friends, family or group with Local Morocco Tours.

Three days from Fes to Merzouga and back is the most comfortable way to reach the Sahara from the north. The extra day compared to the 2-day tour means you can stop properly at the Todra Gorge or Dades Valley on the way south, spend two days fully in the desert, and return to Fes without rushing. Your driver-guide collects you from your Fes riad or hotel on Day 1 and the journey south begins through the Middle Atlas via Azrou and Ifrane.
The road from Fes to Merzouga passes through some of Morocco’s most varied landscapes in a single day: the forested plateaux of the Middle Atlas (cedar, oak, Barbary macaque territory), the volcanic plains around Rich, the Ziz River gorge, and the date palm oases of the Tafilalt before the rose dunes of Erg Chebbi come into view. Arriving at Merzouga in the afternoon gives you a sunset camel trek and a night at a private desert camp.
Day 2 is for the desert itself: a dawn walk in the dunes, a visit to the Gnawa nomad encampments at the edge of the erg, and optional quad-biking or sandboarding before the afternoon drive back toward Fes. Overnight in a mountain lodge or riad in the Middle Atlas on the way back adds a final distinctive Moroccan experience. Request a quote to book your dates.
