Route map

Departing from Fes

Rabat is 200km north-west of Fes — roughly two and a half hours by private vehicle via the A2 or A1 motorway. A day trip covers Morocco’s administrative capital and its UNESCO-listed historic sites: the 12th-century Hassan Tower (unfinished minaret of the world’s largest mosque of its era), the Mausoleum of Mohammed V with its Andalusian-inspired architecture, the Kasbah of the Udayas (12th century, overlooking the Atlantic), and the Chellah necropolis (ancient Roman city converted to a Merenid necropolis).

Rabat is one of Morocco’s four imperial cities but receives far fewer tourists than Fes or Marrakech — the medina is walkable, the souks are local rather than tourist-oriented, and the Atlantic Corniche has a different atmosphere from any inland Moroccan city. Your driver-guide provides context at each site and recommends a seafood lunch at the Bouregreg waterfront or in the old medina.

Return to Fes by early evening. This day trip works well for travellers who have already spent two days in Fes and want to add an Atlantic coast capital to their itinerary before heading south. Hotel pick-up and drop-off in Fes included. Request a quote.
