3 Days Agadir to Chigaga Desert
We organize guided desert tours from Agadir to M'hamid, as well as Erg Chigaga dunes.
Our two-day Agadir morocco desert tour includes a camel ride in Zagora, dinner under the stars and an overnight stay in a traditional Berber camp. Spend two days and one night in the Sahara on one of the shortest sahara desert tours morocco — a guided 4x4 journey from Agadir across the Anti Atlas to Zagora, a private trip crafted for small groups and families. Travellers with longer holidays often combine it with our wider Marrakech desert tours or a Merzouga itinerary; just contact us and we will design a single trip.
Begin your Sahara desert tour from Agadir with Local Morocco Tours, your private desert specialist. We leave Agadir at 7:30 am, crossing the Souss plain and the small Anti Atlas towns of Taliouine, Taznakht and Agdz, with lunch on the way. We then follow the Draa Valley — Morocco's largest palm grove — to Zagora, the little desert village famous for its "52 days to Timbuktu" camel signpost. From there we drive south to Tamegroute to visit the pottery cooperative, the artisan exhibition, the underground kasbah and the Koranic library, before riding camels into the dunes for a stunning sunset. Dinner and overnight in a Berber tent.
We rise early to watch the desert sunrise, then ride the camels back to Zagora for breakfast. After breakfast we drive north towards Ouarzazate and the Atlas Mountains and visit the kasbah of Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a local guide. We then cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass, continue to Marrakech for a short medina visit and finally transfer you back to Agadir, where you are dropped off at your accommodation. At Local Morocco Tours we do everything we can to tailor a private Morocco tour that is perfect for you, your family, your friends or your group.

Agadir is Morocco’s Atlantic resort city — rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake into a modern, wide-avenueed city with 8km of south-facing bay. It’s also a practical gateway to the pre-Saharan south. The Zagora area of the Draa Valley is 400km north-east by road, a journey of about five hours via Taroudant and Taliouine through the Anti-Atlas foothills. Your driver-guide collects you from your Agadir hotel early on Day 1.
The Anti-Atlas route from Agadir to Zagora is different from the standard Marrakech approach: instead of crossing the High Atlas, you travel through the lower Anti-Atlas ranges — drier, more rugged, and less trafficked. Taroudant’s pink-ochre ramparts make a good mid-morning stop before the road climbs into the saffron country of Taliouine (the world’s largest saffron-producing region) and descends toward the Draa Valley.
Zagora’s dunes are smaller than Merzouga but entirely private — far fewer visitors than Erg Chebbi and ideal for a genuine desert overnight without the crowds. Day 2 returns to Agadir via the Souss Valley. All accommodation, camel trek, breakfasts, dinners, and private vehicle are included. Request a quote for your travel dates.
Two days is the absolute minimum for Zagora from Agadir — one long drive day across the Anti-Atlas to the Tinfou/Erg Lihoudi dunes, a Berber camp night, and the return drive the next day. For Erg Chebbi/Merzouga from Agadir, allow at least 4 days.
Private transport with English-speaking driver, all transfers, one night in a Berber desert camp on the Erg Lihoudi dunes, a camel ride into the dunes at sunset, plus dinner and breakfast at the camp.
Yes — Berber tents with proper beds, blankets, washbasins and shared dining. We can also arrange a premium luxury camp with en-suite tents and hot showers on request.
October to April — warm days and cool, starry nights. May to September is hot in the Drâa valley and the dunes; spring and autumn give the easiest temperatures and beautiful light.
