For a 14-day Grand Morocco Tour departing from Casablanca with a native tour driver and desert specialists, our route crosses the Atlas Mountains to reach the Sahara camp in Merzouga. You'll ride camels over the dunes, watch sunset and sunrise, visit Khamlia village — capital of Gnawa music — and experience the best of Morocco's imperial cities, kasbahs and the Atlantic coast at Essaouira.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Casablanca → Rabat

Pick-up from your hotel and visits to Casablanca's top sites — the Hassan II Mosque (Morocco's largest) and the Atlantic coast — before continuing to Rabat to see the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum and the Oudaya Kasbah. Overnight in a riad or hotel.

Day 2

Rabat → Ouazane → Chefchaouen

Drive to the Chefchaouen blue city for a locally guided walk through the medina. Overnight in a Chefchaouen riad or hotel.

Day 3

Chefchaouen

Guided tour of the blue city and its medina. Afternoon free for optional trekking in the Rif highlands. Overnight in Chefchaouen.

Day 4

Chefchaouen → Volubilis → Meknes → Fes

Drive to Volubilis for a guided visit of the Roman ruins, continue to Meknes to see the imperial medina walls, then on to Fes for dinner and overnight.

Day 5

Fes guided medina tour

Explore Fes el-Bali, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world's largest urban pedestrian zones. Visit the tanneries and the University of Al-Quaraouiyine, the oldest continually operating madrasa. Overnight in Fes.

Day 6

Fes → Ifrane → Azrou → Midelt

Visit the Ifrane ski resort, cross the Middle Atlas Mountains to the cedar forests of Azrou and feed the native Barbary apes. Continue to Midelt for dinner and overnight in a small kasbah or hotel.

Day 7

Midelt → Erfoud → Rissani → Merzouga

Drive to Errachidia and through the Ziz Valley, stopping at Erfoud to see the fossil workshops, then Rissani, and finally the Merzouga desert. Take a camel ride across the Erg Chebbi dunes (about 90 minutes) to a beautiful camp. Dinner with Berber music.

Day 8

Merzouga → Todra → Dades Gorges

Early wake-up for sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, camel ride back to the hotel, then drive via Rissani, Jorf and Tinghir to the Todra Gorges — a famous rock-climbing area. Continue to the Dades Valley for dinner and overnight in a traditional kasbah.

Day 9

Dades → Rose Valley → Ouarzazate → Ait Benhaddou → Marrakech

Tour the best of the Dades Gorges, continue to the Rose Valley and Skoura, then Ouarzazate's Atlas Studios and the UNESCO-listed kasbah of Aït Benhaddou (the backdrop for many films). Cross the scenic Tizi n'Tichka pass to Marrakech. Overnight in a riad or hotel.

Day 10

Marrakech sightseeing

Guided tour of Marrakech: tanneries, Saadian Tombs, Menara and Majorelle Gardens, the Koutoubia and the iconic Jemaa el-Fna square. Overnight in a nearby riad.

Day 11

Marrakech → Essaouira

Leave Marrakech, stop in Chichaoua for tea, then admire the argan trees — prized for their nutritional and cosmetic benefits. Arrive in Essaouira, explore the old lanes and the Atlantic shore. Overnight in a riad or hotel.

Day 12

Essaouira medina & city

After breakfast, visit the Skala Fortress, the medina and the beach. Afternoon free program. Overnight in Essaouira.

Day 13

Essaouira → Casablanca

Drive up the Atlantic coast back to Casablanca. Overnight in a Casablanca hotel.

Day 14

Casablanca departure
