Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Marrakech → Aït Benhaddou → Ouarzazate

After an early pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, we begin our journey into the Atlas Mountains and make our way to Aït Benhaddou via the breathtaking Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass. We then visit the UNESCO World Heritage ksar that has featured in major Hollywood films, including Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator. After the guided walk, you will have the afternoon at leisure before we drive you on to Ouarzazate for an overnight stay in a nearby hotel or riad.

Day 2

Ouarzazate → Marrakech

Today we focus on the highlights of Ouarzazate, including the Taourirt Kasbah in the city centre and a stop at one of the famous film studios. After lunch, you may take part in optional activities such as a quad-bike ride. We then leave Ouarzazate and drive back across the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. Departing from Marrakech

Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate are 200km south of Marrakech by road — close enough for a proper two-day private excursion and far enough to feel like a genuine journey rather than a day trip. Your driver-guide collects you from your Marrakech hotel and the road climbs immediately toward the High Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m), Morocco’s highest paved road and one of the most dramatic drives in North Africa.

Ait Benhaddou is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has served as a film set for Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, Game of Thrones and dozens more — a fortified ksar of earthen towers rising above the Ounila River. After a guided tour of the kasbah, the road descends to Ouarzazate, the ‘Hollywood of Africa’, with its working film studios and the enormous Kasbah Taourirt. Overnight in an upmarket guesthouse in Ouarzazate.

Day 2 can be used for Atlas Studios (the world’s largest film studio), the Fint Oasis outside town, or an early departure back to Marrakech. The return follows the same mountain pass, often with different cloud and light conditions. Hotel pick-up and drop-off in Marrakech included. Request a quote for your dates.
