Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Fes to Merzouga via Midelt and Erfoud

After riad/hotel pick-up we drive towards Ifrane and explore the cedar forest at Azrou, home to Barbary macaques. We continue on to Midelt and the Ziz Valley, then visit the Erfoud fossils. Onwards into the Sahara, we prepare for a camel ride near Merzouga and watch the desert sunset from the top of a dune. Enjoy dinner and traditional Berber music before spending the night in a comfortable desert camp.

Day 2

Merzouga - Todra - Dades Gorges

After an early wake-up we watch the desert sunrise, followed by a camel ride back to the hotel for breakfast. We then drive to Rissani, visit Erfoud and continue to the Todra Valley, home to the spectacular Todra Gorges. You will spend the night in the Dades Valley in a local kasbah, with dinner included.

Day 3

Dades - Skoura - Aït Benhaddou - Marrakech

After breakfast we explore the Dades Gorges, then drive on to the Rose Valley and Skoura. We discover the best of Ouarzazate: the Taourirt kasbah and the famous film studios. We then visit Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most photographed kasbahs in Morocco. Continuing over the Tizi n'Tichka pass and through Berber villages, we reach Marrakech and drop you at your hotel. We will be happy to arrange the perfect private tour from Fes for your friends, family or group with Local Morocco Tours.

Route map

Departing from Fes, ending in Marrakech

A three-day one-way tour from Fes to Marrakech via the Sahara is one of the most logical routes in Morocco for travellers with a north-to-south itinerary: you start in Fes (the cultural capital of the north), cross the Middle Atlas to the Merzouga dunes, and finish in Marrakech (the commercial and creative capital of the south). The route connects two international airports without retracing a single road.

Departing from your Fes riad or hotel on Day 1, the journey south passes through the cedar forests of Azrou, the volcanic plateau around Rich, and the Ziz Valley before arriving at Erg Chebbi in the evening. After a sunset camel trek and an overnight at a private desert camp, Day 2 heads west via the Todra Gorge and Ouarzazate — some of the most dramatic driving in Morocco. The final leg climbs over the High Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka to Marrakech.

This Fes-to-Marrakech routing is ideal for travellers who want to see the country’s entire cultural and geographic range in a focused three-day transfer. All accommodation, camel trek, breakfasts, dinners, and private vehicle throughout are included. Request a quote to check availability on your dates.
